Boat Rental FAQs, Tampa

About Windsong Boat Rentals in Tampa Bay Area, FL

In 2002, what started off as silly banter over cheap cigars and even cheaper beer has turned into the largest family owned boat rental company in the entire Tampa Bay area!

We started with just one sailboat doing half and full day sailing charters. We then added a 2nd and then a 3rd sailboat by 2006. When someone asked if it was possible to get married on a sailboat, we thought.. why not? Thus began our weddings division and we now perform over 50 weddings a year and facilitate as many engagements! We have a 100% YES for marriage proposals!

When the pontoon rental company next to us closed down, this seemed like an opportune time to expand into boat rental and we began the boat rental division with just two used pontoon boats adding more each year. Now we only buy new boats and new engines and have over 20 pontoon boats in our fleet.

In 2010 after the BP oil spill, we were only one of very few marine companies that did NOT qualify for loss reimbursement from BP. Simply because we had grown so much that we could not prove a loss! In 2013 we were awarded the contract by the State of Florida making us one of only four companies authorized to take visitors to Anclote Key State Preserve.

Due to changing markets we have slowly phased out the sailboats in order to focus exclusively on pontoon charters and boat and kayak rentals.

We are committed to excellent customer service and we do that by focusing on our staff by providing a living wage, incentives and training. Over the years many of our young dock hands have moved on to become captains themselves with some even starting their own charter business in the Keys and up North. Some of our captains have been with us for over 13 years.

We are community conscious and believe in giving back to the community that provides us our living. We sponsor several charities including the Lighthouse for the Blind.

Captain Doug

I was raised in South Alabama, have 35+ years of experience boating in the gulf. For several years I owned and operated a popular boat charter in the US Virgin Islands. I am a certified USCG Master Captain.

After that, I ran a scenic cruise ship excursion in Ketchikan, Alaska. I’ve been back on the gulf now for the last three years and have great knowledge of local waters and scenic high points.

Captain Anthony

Captain Anthony grew up in Tarpon Springs. As a youngster my spare time was spent on the Gulf of Mexico, Anclote River and of course the sponge docks and the Pasco County shoreline!
Moving to San Francisco in 1980, I spent 35 years on San Francisco Bay, near coastal California, and the Pacific Ocean; commercial fishing, charter boat fishing and of course San Francisco Bay- Golden Gate boat tours from fisherman's wharf, and the port of Sausalito.

Returning to the Tampa Bay area in 2018, I have been living in New Port Richey and active doing local tours, hired private & public charters.First and foremost is my concern for your safety and see to it that you have an enjoyable and memorable experience while having the best day ever with Windsong Charters! My love and passion is being on the helm and showing what we have here on Florida’s Sports Coast, and sharing my knowledge of the local area scenery and history!

Looking forward to being your Captain!
